VISION, MISSION AND HISTORY

     

The Bluegrass IIBA Chapter is a non-profit professional association established in August 2013 to serve the business community of the Bluegrass region of central and eastern Kentucky. We welcome professionals of all disciplines who deliver organizational change including business analysis, business management, project management, product management, quality assurance and control, change management, consultants and recruiters. 

IIBA® Core Purpose 

To unite a community of professionals to create better business outcomes. 

Strategic goals of IIBA® are:

    • Drive awareness of the value and contribution of the role of the business analysis professional.
    • Formalize and evolve A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide)
    • Define a roadmap for professional growth and development
    • Advance the practices of business analysis
    • Publicly recognize qualified practitioners through an internationally acknowledged certification program
    • Provide forums for knowledge sharing

Operational goals of IIBA® are:

    • Enable sustainable growth to support the establishment of IIBA as a worldwide organization
    • Ensure financial viability to support the implementation and sustainment of IIBA operational and strategic priorities
    • Consistently demonstrate the value of the organization to IIBA constituents

Bring together the Bluegrass community of professionals who deliver organizational change to promote best practices in delivering better business outcomes. 

 

The Objectives of the Bluegrass IIBA Chapter are to:

    • Champion Business Analysis excellence by providing an educational program, promoting best practices, and creating opportunities for practitioners to grow personally and professionally.
    • Develop Business Analysis practitioners and leaders who deliver organizational results.
    • Cultivate alliances with organizations in the community to advance the profession in the Bluegrass.
    • Provide networking opportunities for business professionals to learn from each other.

 

Our History 

Aaron Whittenberger, IIBA Director of the Americas Eastern Region, contacted people in the Central Kentucky region interested in Business Analysis starting in July 2013. Over 70 people indicated their interest in starting a local chapter of the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®). Several people got involved to launch the new chapter for business analysis and business change professionals.

  • May 4, 2021 - IIBA Membership Harmonization takes effect, which causes Bluegrass Chapter membership to drop from 121 to 93.
  • May 2021 - Held our eighth Annual General Meeting. Inducted our sexth class of three individuals into the Bluegrass Business Analysis Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Lorelea Roberts, Elizabeth Larson and Rich Larson on their induction into the Hall of Fame.
  • June 2021 - Bluegrass Chapter holds its first ever Community Poll Party.
  • July 2021 - BLuegrass Chapter holds its second Bluegrass Business Analysis Conference (BBAC) with 55 attendees.
  • October 2021 - Bluegrass Chapter holds its first every Halloween themed "Boo Bash" community event.
  • November 2021 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter wins the IIBA "Leadership Excellence" Award at the annual chapter awards ceremony.
  • December 2021 - Bluegrass Chapter holds its first ever Mind Mapping community event with a holiday cookie recipe exchange. The cookie recipes were made into a Holiday Cookie Cookbook and distributed to all attendees.
  • December 2021 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter ends the year with 122 members.

  • April 2020 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter membership reaches 100 for first time in chapter history.
  • May 2020 - Held our seventh Annual General Meeting. Inducted our fifth class of two individuals into the Bluegrass Business Analysis Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Tomette Kirk and Bill Powers on their induction into the Hall of Fame.
  • September 2020 - Bluegrass Chapter holds its very first Bluegrass Business Analysis Conference (BBAC) with 73 attendees.
  • November 2020 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter wins the IIBA Chapter of the Year at the annual chapter awards ceremony.
  • December 2020 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter ends the year with 114 members.

  • January-July 2019 - Ran membership promotion that gave participants in chapter programs a discount on membership or annual pass, as well as entry in drawing for membership/program prizes held in July 2019.
  • February 2019 - Added new webinar series to programs - Agile Analysis Huddle.
  • April 2019 - Added new webinar series to programs - Digital Transformation Chalk Talk.
  • May 2019 - Held our sixth Annual General Meeting. Inducted our fourth class of two professionals into the Bluegrass Business Analysis Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Sarah Sechrist and Bud Ratliff.
  • June - August 2018 - Held our 5th BABOK v3 Study Group with 30 participants. Participants used the BABOK and CBAP Study Guide to learn the content of the BABOK and prepare to take their IIBA certification exam.
  • June 24, 2019 - Bill Phillips, CBAP, PSM, AAC becomes first person from Bluegrass IIBA Chapter to earn the IIBA Agile Analysis (IIB-AAC) Certification.
  • July 2019 - Jonathan Hill is grand prize winner of 2019 membership promotion and wins a one-year Bluegrass IIBA and IIBA membership.
  • July 2019 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter membership reaches 60 for first time in chapter history.
  • September 2019 - Two more chapter members and participants of our Agile Analysis Study Group obtain the IIBA®-AAC Certification. Congratulations to Aaron Whittenberger and Ken Vander Horn.
  • October 2019 - Bluegrass IIBA announces remote attendance option available at all chapter meetings and most chapter events. This allows those who cannot make it to Lexington or Louisville to attend, as well as those outside of Kentucky.
  • November 2019 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter wins the "Delivering Membership Value Award" at the annual IIBA Chapter Awards ceremony. Five people from Bluegrass community have social event at Total Wine & More to watch the awards announcement ceremony. Vice President of Professional Development, Aaron Whittenberger, was nominated for Volunteer of the Year Award for Americas Eastern Region and received honorable mention for the award.
  • December 2019 - Held our seventh annual Winter Networking Social at Bella Notte in Lexington. Kentuckiana Branch held their social at Republic Plaza HUB Room.
  • December 2019 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter ends the year with membership at 82.

  • February 2018 - Launched the Kentuckiana IIBA Branch serving the Louisville and Southeast Indiana business communities.
  • February 2018 - Added new webinar series to program - IIBA® Certification Screen-side Chat.
  • April 2018 - Participated with a vendor booth in Commerce Lexington Business Link networking and trade show event. Gave away chapter logoed items to those in attendance.
  • April 2018 - The chapter membership elected Kathy Leigh as President of the Chapter.
  • May 2018 - Held our fifth Annual General Meeting. Inducted our third class of two professionals into the Bluegrass Business Analysis Hall of Fame. Congratulations to LeShai Phelps and Marguerite Stearns.
  • June - August 2018 - Held a CBAP/BABOK v3 Study Group with 11 participants. Participants used the BABOK and CBAP Study Guide to learn the content of the BABOK and prepare to take their IIBA certification exam. Four members of the study group were certified (3 CBAP, 1 CCBA) by end of year.
  • November 2018 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter wins the "Leadership Excellence Award" at the annual IIBA Chapter Awards ceremony. Seven people from Bluegrass community have social event at Sutton's to watch the awards announcement ceremony. President, Kathy Leigh, was nominated for Volunteer of the Year Award for Americas Eastern Region and received honorable mention for the award.
  • December 2018 - Held our sixth annual Winter Networking Social at Horseshoes Kentucky Grill & Saloon. Kentuckiana Branch held their social at Republic Plaza HUB Room.

  • May 2017 - Held our fourth Annual General Meeting. Inducted our second class of three professionals into the Bluegrass Business Analysis Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Kathy Leigh, Cody May and Eric-Stephan Neill.
  • June - August 2017 - Held a CBAP/BABOK v3 Study Group with 17 participants. Participants used the BABOK and a CBAP Study Guide to learn the content of the BABOK and prepare to take their CBAP exam.
  • November 2017 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter wins the "Community Outreach Award" at the annual IIBA Chapter Awards ceremony. Nine people from the Bluegrass community have social event at The Pub to listen to award announcements from Building Business Capability Conference in Orlando, FL.
  • December 2017 - Held our fifth annual Winter Social at Hopcat.

  • March - May 2016 - Held a CBAP/BABOK v2.0 Study Group with 18 participants, remote and local. These participants wanted to get their IIBA certification before the exams switched over to be based on BABOK v3.
  • April 2016 - The chapter membership elect Terry Sundy, Jr. as the new Chapter President.
  • May 2016 - Held our third Annual General Meeting. Inducted our first class of professionals into the Bluegrass Business Analysis Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Daryl Keltz and Aaron Whittenberger. We have raised our membership to 51.
  • July 2016 - Introduced 'BA Talks' video series and invited community to participate by creating videos to include in the 'BA Talks' series.
  • November 2016 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter wins the "Innovation Award" at the annual IIBA Chapter Awards ceremony.
  • December 2016 - Held our fourth annual Winter Social at Bella Notte.
  • December 2016 - Bluegrass IIBA Chapter publishes its first newsletter...The Bluegrass BA Connection, with plans to publish the newsletter quarterly. The Bluegrass BA Connection combines National/International Business News, IIBA International Association News, Bluegrass Chapter News and Local Business News to be of interest to all readers.

  • January 2015 - Received our Charter from IIBA making us an official chapter of the IIBA.
  • January 2015 - Held Town Hall Meeting co-hosted with PMI Kentucky Bluegrass Chapter on Business Analysis Certification.
  • May 2015 - Held our second Annual General Meeting. We have raised chapter membership to 30.
  • May 2015 - July 2015 - Held our first BABOK v3 Virtual Study Group.
  • July 2015 - Launched Green Mountain IIBA Branch in Burlington, VT
  • October 2015 - Launched Bluegrass Business Analysis Hall of Fame
  • December 2015 - Held our third annual Winter Social at The Solarity Group, where we played BA Feud. The Chapter ends the year with membership at 43.

  • January 2014 and beyond - The Chapter delivers its Business Analysis program to the local community.
  • May 2014 - Held our first Annual General Meeting. We have raised chapter membership from zero to 16.
  • October 2014 - Petition to become an IIBA chapter approved by IIBA.
  • October 2014 - Chapter holds first Leadership Fair. Four attended to explore leadership opportunities with the Chapter.
  • November 2014 - Membership of the chapter ratify the Chapter By-laws.
  • December 2014 - Held our second annual Winter Networking Social, returning to BD's Mongolian Grill. The Chapter ends the year with membership at 23.

  • August 15, 2013 - Aaron led an informational kick-off meeting.
  • September 18, 2013 - The first organizational meeting was held, where several Board of Director positions were filled.
  • October 2, 2013 - The Board of Directors begin to meet to plan the program for the new Chapter.
  • November 13, 2013 - The first program meeting was held with Terry Wiegmann from Columbus, Ohio speaking.
  • December 11, 2013 - The first Winter Networking Social was held at BD's Mongolian Grill.
