Bluegrass IIBA Chapter will host a training event for business analysis, project management and organizational change professionals of the Bluegrass region and surrounding area. This business analysis training and professional development event will consist of two workshop sessions to improve your business analysis skills. We will bring together two outstanding business analysis training providers: The Solarity Group of Lexington, KY and ASPE Training of Cary, NC to provide an outstanding training experience for Bluegrass business professionals. The Solarity Group is a local training provider and consulting firm in the business analysis, project management and change management space that provides courses and services to help individuals and organization deliver better business outcomes. ASPE Training is an Endorsed Education Provider of IIBA committed to providing the best skills, tools, and techniques to successfully transform complex business challenges into strategic systems capabilities. These workshop sessions will provide interactive audience exercises to increase your learning experience.

Session 1: The Art and Science of Influence, by David Mantica
As organizations flatten to meet the dramatic impacts that disruption and change are having on business, the dynamics of influence are changing rapidly. The old concept of managing up and managing down is being replaced by executing and engaging horizontally throughout the entire organization. To become effective you must show you can get things done while navigating the complexities brought by flat organizations.
Flat organizations might at first seem simple to work through. But the reality is much different. Flat organizations can bring more politics and road blocks as the number of people involved in a decision increase. When you democratize the decision making in an organization, things will slow down and there will be some level of dysfunction.
This presentation will explain why organizations have started to flatten and how professionals can successfully navigate any organization type.
Session 2: Business Analysis Planning - Choosing the Right Approach, by Sue Knies
Whether working at an enterprise-wide level or within the structure of a project, business analysis planning is key. A proper level of planning is required in order to build a solid foundation for other business analysis activities to build upon.
Business Analysis Planning includes choosing the right approach for things like:
- Determining how Stakeholders will be engaged
- Selecting the appropriate method for producing deliverables
- Developing a Business Analysis Plan or Governance
- Defining how information and deliverables will be managed
- Identifying Business Analysis Process improvements
With attendee participation, during this presentation we will solidify our understanding of what is involved with Business Analysis Planning, explore together the level effort involved, and review examples of key deliverables that are produced as the result of these efforts.
David Mantica - ASPE President
Mr. Mantica is president of the American Society of Professional Education, the family of professional training companies. His career as a business leader in the training industry spans twenty years. He has led or conducted product management efforts around more than 300 training courses, delivered both as expert-led classroom programs and live online training delivered remotely. Courses developed by his firms have addressed skills gaps in a range of industries, including: the software development life cycle, many IT topics, telecommunications, finance, healthcare IT and marketing.
Sue Knies - Solarity, Executive Project Manager and Trainer
Sue Knies, PMP, CSSBB is an Executive Project Manager and Instructor with The Solarity Group. Sue provides consulting services to companies by managing key projects, and working with employees to improve and strengthen their project management skills. As an instructor, she develops and enhances courseware, teaches and mentors students in project management, and helps translate best practices and principles into approaches that are readily understood and utilized. Prior to joining The Solarity Group, Sue had a long and distinguished career with IBM, working with worldwide, cross-divisional teams, collaborating with clients, and managing projects that yielded client solutions, drove growth and expanded wallet share. Sue currently serves on the PMI KY Bluegrass Chapter Board as the Assistant VP of Programs and actively shares her skills by volunteering with her church on several committees.
