IIBA® just published an article written by one of our chapter leaders, Aaron Whittenberger, CBAP, AAC, CPOA, A-CSPO. The article restates the point that Aaron makes in his new book Agile Business Analysis: A Guide to Product Thinking and Delivery, that there is need for a dedicated business analyst on an agile team.
Teams that are supported by professional business analysis, quality assurance and business architecture roles develop better products. The article states...
I’ve spent the last several years supporting Agile teams as a dedicated business analyst. From my perspective, business analysis in an Agile environment is a role on the Agile team… but it may be more than that.
Not all organizations would agree with that assessment. I’m aware of three organizations that, when converting to Agile, moved a few of their business analysts into the product owner role and let the rest go. One year later, at least one of those organizations was hiring business analysts again. I feel that is a testament to the value professional business analysis services can provide in Agile environments.
