Bluegrass IIBA congratulates our latest person to earn the CBAP® Certification!
As a graduate of the 2024 BABOK Study Group provided by the Bluegrass IIBA Chapter, Thea Soehren went on to pass the CBAP® exam on December 30, 2024. She makes the third participant from the study group, that ended October 28, 2024, that earned the Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP).
Thea adds the CBAP® certification to her Certified Scrum Product Owner® certification, from Scrum Alliance®, and the Agile Product Ownership ICP-APO from ICAgile. Thea has also completed the executive level course Data Strategy: Leveraging Data as a Competitive Advantage, Data Analysis from the University of California, Berkeley.
Thea has been a Business Analyst for several decades and has worked in the Information Technology field for much of that time. Her experience spans a variety of industries including nuclear, medical diagnostics, insurance, US Tax, software development, marketing, professional services and management consulting. Previously, she worked as an enterprise change consultant for KPMG.

Currently, Thea works for Cincinnati Insurance Company and is a member of the Business Analysis Center of Excellence (BACoE) for IT Business Analysts.
She has extensive experience working in both Waterfall and Agile projects, simultaneously serving a variety of roles, such as Business Analyst, Scrum Master, Product Owner, Agile Coach, Program Manager, Project Manager, Problem Solver and Head Cheerleader.
A lifelong learner, Thea has been coaching and teaching for 15 years. Since 2013, she has been involved in leading IIBA® Chapters in Kansas City, Topeka, and Tampa Bay, Florida. She is currently the President of the Tampa Bay, Florida USA Chapter and frequently speaks and leads multi-week study groups for other IIBA Chapters and various organizations worldwide. Thea is very active on LinkedIn and strives to assist every person she can.
Thea was one of the authors of the A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide) a decade ago and has taught the CBAP course many times, however teaching and learning are two very different things. With a group of committed Business Analysis professionals at Cincinnati Insurance Company, Thea buckled down and focused on learning the details for herself. She is the second person to earn the CBAP from that group.
Thea credits the CBAP study groups from the different Chapters (Tampa Bay, Ireland, Bluegrass, and the Philippines), the Watermark Learning CBAP® Certification Study Guide v3.0 and the insight gained from having consistent CIC BACoE study group partners for her successful preparation for the exam.
Thea founded, in2024, and leads the BA Force Multiplier Movement, completed the book Business Analysis: Bridging the Gap Across Industries and is working on the second in that series.
She will continue leading the Tampa Bay, Florida IIBA Chapter, coach, speak internationally and find places to be a positive impact. When not working or teaching Business Analysis, Thea enjoys spending time with her husband, Lance, making their home a peaceful retreat, and finding new things to learn.
