BA on the Street: Kathy White, Business Manager
Hello! My name is Kathy White. I have been in IT for 38+ years. I have coded in languages that many may have never known existed. I started my IT career in Mainframe Operations. I was a developer when developers did just about everything. Back then, requirements were gathered by the developer, peer reviews and much of the testing were also done by the developers. I have done everything from development to management in my career. I now find myself in a Senior Business Analyst Role for System Portfolio Management for Army Human Resource and Recruiting Commands. It is a little bit of a different spin of a Business Analyst, but still requires many of the same skills.
There isn’t much that I haven’t done. I am one of those strange people that enjoys getting in front of people to share my knowledge and explore the knowledge of others.
Outside of my “day” job, I am a life coach and podcaster. I have spoken at several conferences and also several different groups about many different topics. As I have built my skills in these areas, I have created an LLC for this work, which makes me a “CEO” for my company.
Not so very long ago, I also found myself back in school taking college courses. I have found, though, that in most everything that I have done in my career, the skills required as a Business Analyst have been helpful and been critical in my success in all areas of my career. These skills compliment and play nicely with the other skills required in venturing out into other areas. That is one of the beautiful things about being a Business Analyst. You have skills that are remarkable building blocks for just about anything else you decide to do. From student to CEO, these skills have me ready for whatever I decide to venture into next. I love to build my knowledge and talents so one of the things I love most about being a Business Analyst is there is always room for growth and creativity.
