Bringing the Profession Home

My role as Regional Director of the Americas Eastern Region for the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) is to support the IIBA® chapters in the eastern time zone of North America. I define the role a little more broadly, to support the business analysis communities of the eastern time zone. As part of that role I look for communities that should be served by an IIBA® chapter but is not currently being served. My first stop was in my own back yard in the great Bluegrass state.

The IIBA® will spout off some great benefits of membership in IIBA® that include:

  • A free copy of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK®).
  • A free copy of the Business Analysis Competency Model.
  • Free access to the Online Library, over 300 books on business analysis topics that would cost thousands of dollars to purchase individually.
  • Knowledge sharing and networking opportunities through the IIBA® communities.
  • Access to member only, on top of the public, webinars on a wide range of business analysis topics.
  • Discount fees for IIBA® certification exams.
  • Access to monthly IIBA® Chapters newsletters.
  • Eligibility to join a local IIBA® chapter, which includes opportunities for leadership roles within the local and larger business analysis community.

I believe you will agree all excellent benefits and all worth the price of membership, but I think the greatest benefit of being associated with IIBA is the value of an excellently delivered program to the local business community. This is not a benefit of membership, but of partaking of the local program. To that end, I and a group of volunteers who have stepped up with excitement and enthusiasm will do our absolute best to deliver the best program possible to this local community. We spoke in the Board of Directors meeting last month, that even though this chapter is in its infancy, we intend to win the Top Chapter Award given by the IIBA® next year. The way we will accomplish that goal, is to deliver an excellent program to you; and thereby, increase both membership and attendance to our events throughout the year. In the coming months we will be asking for your input to that program, what do you want to grow in knowledge about.  We will customize our program for our community.  We will remain open to all suggestions beyond our inquiries and surveys, so please do not hesitate to speak to any of the Board members on how to improve our program; because as I said, it is in its infancy.  Like any infant it has to mature, but don’t worry even in its infancy it matches what other chapters have as many of your Board members are quite experienced in delivering such programs to the local professional community, and we pledge to deliver the best one possible to you.  So sit back and enjoy; you are why we are here!

I hope y'all and your families had a safe and wonderful holiday season!  Now let's continue what we started in 2013.
