Write Outstanding User Stories! A workshop with Ryland Leyton, CBAP
The ability to write high-quality user stories that empower and drive software teams is a topic that can frustrate any software professional!
This session is a deep-dive on two critical topics:
First and foremost: how to write a solid user story that developers will be happy to see and which maximizes velocity & flow on your team.
Second, and more briefly, an overview of decomposition strategies about how to arrive at the individual, executable, small user stories from ones that are too big to do all at once.
What do we cover?
- The best practice template that I've found works over and over again.
- Pitfalls, best practices, common mistakes to avoid.
- Lots of in-class exercises drawn from real world examples.
- How to handle those cases which trip people the most: business intelligence/data warehousing, and endpoint development.
(And, most importantly, you'll get to hear my famous "laundry" episode and how you will never write a story with the wrong actor again!)
We will, to a lesser degree and in service of our learning how to write stories, discuss & apply decomposition strategies. This is all about how you cut that "big giant Epic" into smaller individual user stories that your team can consume & run with.
Class recordings will be available to registrants for 30 days after the session.
The course includes group practice activities. A syllabus and knowledge test is provided at the end of the session.
