I Write Requirements...Do You?

This professional development workshop teaches the core responsibility of the IT Business Analyst--Requirements Discovery and Specification.

Requirements elicitation, analysis and documentation is at the heart of the project business analyst role. Often we tend to think that performing discovery activities is the difficult part, but don’t let anyone tell you that documenting your findings is simple; it’s not.  Writing requirements is hard! There is no simple, formulaic approach to software specification, however, writing proper requirements brings so many benefits to the organization.  Writing better requirements assists organizations to select best projects to fund, facilitates estimation, enables rational prioritization, assists in developing higher quality designs and more effective testing.

This workshop from the BA Knowledge Academy takes a deep dive into the core responsibility of the project business analyst to assist them to write higher quality requirements.  This workshop goes beyond telling you that requirements need to be S.M.A.R.T. It provides tools to the business analysis practitioner to build a positive cadence that can help the analyst break through writer’s block.

Learning points:

  • Understanding the difference between discovery and specification
  • Introduction to A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide)
  • Exposure to the different levels of requirements and solution scope
  • Understanding of S.M.A.R.T. Requirements
  • Hands on experience with requirements at each level
  • When to know you are done!

3.5 PD Hours | 3.5 CDUs

This workshop is not currently endorsed (pre-approved); however, it qualifies for 3.5 Professional Development (PD) Hours toward IIBA® certification and 3.5 Continuing Development Units (CDU) toward retaining your existing IIBA® certification.

This is the first of a 10 part series of business analysis training workshops designed to give the participant a look at the full role of the business analyst within the context of a project.  A participant may attend only the topics in which they have an interest to learn more, or attend all 10 workshops for the full look at the business analyst role.
